Vivek oberoi blames fatwa issued agsint him after fight with salman to be the reason behind is career fiasco
Actor Vivek Oberoi had a very promising start to his career in Bollywood with his debut movie ‘Company’ (2002) followed by another hit, ‘Saathiya’ in the same year. However, his stardom started fading away very soon and the reason was his row with none other than Salman Khan.
Their infamous fight started way back in 2003 when Vivek Oberoi called a press conference claiming that Salman Khan had threatened him. The reason behind their fight was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Aish saw comfort in Vivek Oberoi after her abusive relationship with Salman Khan. Though Aishwarya Rai never made it public that she and Vivek were in a relationship, it was quite evident then, which created a rift between the two actors.
This event was closely followed by a rough patch in his career with a few hits and misses. Though his films like ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’, ‘Grand Masti’ and ‘Krrish 3’ managed to create quite a buzz, Vivek couldn’t retain the star status he owned initially.
For the first time and after years now, the actor opened about the period in an interview with Mumbai Mirror, saying, “It was like a fatwa issued against me from the powers that be.”
He added, “Even if I gave a hit, work wouldn’t follow. Shootout at Lokhandwala became a huge hit but I sat at home for a year after that.”
There were reports that Vivek was declining film offers and many of them ended up becoming hits. Talking about the rumors of him refusing Hum Tum, he said, “Hum Tum was offered to me on the exact same day that I was supposed to begin shooting for Kisna which was delayed since I had an accident during Yuva. Some things were just not meant to be.”
Talking about how messed up his life was, he concluded, “When my personal life got messed up, I couldn’t keep my eye on the ball.”
Years after this incident, Vivek is still paying the price for it!
