Veteran Actor Om Puri Just Dishonoured the Memory of a Slain Soldier, and India is Not Pleased

Uri attacks have triggered a social and national war between India and Pakistan. While there are people advocating for peace, there is a section frivolously demanding for war, without knowing the cost of one. Bollywood too, is divided on the matter. While there are people like Karan Johar and Salman Khan who are supporting the Pakistani artists and saying that art and politics should be separate, there are people like Randeep Hooda and Nana Patekar who have come out in support of this decision from the Government of India.

However, no matter what everyone said or whose side they were on, none of them said anything infuriating regarding the army and soldiers, until now. Veteran actor Om Puri, created a new low in the history of statements, when while during a perfectly civilized discussion on a leading TV news channel, Puri stated, “Did we force them to join the army? My father was also in the army… We are proud of them (soldiers)… I am asking you: Do you want India and Pakistan to become Israel and Palestine?”

“I don’t give a damn to Salman Khan or some other Khan… Go to Modiji (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) and cancel their (Pakistani actors’) visas. Prepare 15-20 people as suicide bombers and send them to Pakistan,” the actor stated further.

Little did he know that he would soon start trending on social media, and not for good reason. The actor is on the receiving end of flak from various people, commoners and celebrities alike. Celebs like Ashok Pandit and Anupam Kher condemned this statement through their tweets.

Expressing opinion is one thing, and being disrespectful to an army officer who gives his life so people like us can sleep in peace, is another thing. Sadly, Om Puri has given such statement when we really did not expect this from a seasoned and sensible man like him

Well, we hope we could have said something to soothe the actor, or least be neutral about it. Unfortunately, we can’t. This was a very shameful thing to say, on the part of the actor, and we condemn it. What are your views on the same? Do let us know in the comments.
