The 2013 movie ‘Jolly LLB’, starring Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani in lead roles, was a courtroom comedy dealt in an intelligent way, and was a surprise success. So much so, that the makers decided to take the franchise forward, albeit in a grander way, by introducing Akshay Kumar as Jolly. The trailer of the second part of the franchise, ‘Jolly LLB 2’ is out now, and this time, it is not a just comedy, it has its elements of grey that will make you introspect.

We have Akshay Kumar as the Jolly, Huma Qureshi in the role of his wife. The movie is set in Lucknow and we must say that the actors have held on to the dialect and body language of the area well, and are quite convincing as Lucknawis. The surprise comes in the form of Annu Kapoor, who is the antagonist, and the lawyer fighting the case against Jolly. Annu Kapoor is a stunner and why won’t he be, after the galore of experience that he has. We see the return of Saurabh Shukla as the judge, and also see glimpses of other actors, who leave an impact.

What starts as a slapstick courtroom comedy turns into something darker, but even then, one has to give credit to the makers for not letting it waver from the genre, and curtailing the emotions beautifully to deviate it towards a humorous side. The ending dialogue delivered by Akshay Kumar is powerful, and will leave an impact.
The good news is that Arshad Warsi, the original Jolly too has a cameo in the film.
