Former Cricketer and Punjab Cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu is removed from ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ following his comments on the Pulwama attack.
Punjab cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu’s statement on the martyrdom of 40 soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama attack has steered a controversy on social media. Sidhu’s distasteful remarks on the Pulwama attack received a lot of flak, which caused his removal from The Kapil Sharma Show. Sony TV has asked Sidhu to leave the popular television show ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’.
Archana Puran Singh will replace Navjot Singh Sidhu . This is the second time when Archana is replacing him in this show.
Cricketer-turned-politician Sidhu commented saying, “For a handful of people, can you blame the entire nation and can you blame an individual? Nations cannot be held responsible for the dastardly acts of terrorists. The terrorists do not have deen, mazhab (sect and religion). There are good, the bad and the ugly. It (the attack) is a cowardly act and I condemn it firmly. Violence is always condemnable and those who did it must be punished.”
Post Siddhu’s comment on Pulwama attack, social media criticized him and demanded his removal from the show.
“His remarks have not been taken kindly by most. Also, the channel and the show was getting dragged into the unwanted controversy. This is when the team amicably decided that Navjot make a distance from the show. The team has already shot a couple of episodes with Archana,” reported Indian Express.
On February 14, Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama saw a dastardly terror attack, as at least 44 jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were martyred when a suicide Bomber Adil Ahmad Dar rammed his SUV packed with explosives into a CRPF.
According to sources, “the channel is very particular about its credibility. Last year when Anu Malik’s name came in #MeToo moment, the channel took a stand and he was immediately shown the door outside. The same action is being taken against Navjot Singh Sidhu. His comment on terror attack is not acceptable. That’s why the channel has asked him to resign from the show.”
Speaking to news agency ANI, Archana Puran Singh has confirmed that she has shot two episodes for ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ dated 9th and 13th February. On asking would you like to continue in this show? In response, Archana said “Why not”? The experience was so great that if the channel wants me to continue it, then I will agree to it immediately.
