The last minute decision of including Steve Bannon at The New Yorker Festival received heat. It pissed off all the prominent celebrities to the extent they pulled out their names off the festival.
The outrage spread like a wild fire after New Yorker Festival scheduled to have Steve Bannon, Trump’s former chief strategist and the ex chairman of Breitbart News as guest at the prestigious festival. The news of Steve Bannon on New Yorker festival became an instant internet buzz which is currently trending on twitter. The news irked the artists and producers to the extent that they took it to their twitter account and pulled out their names from the festival.
Steve Bannon was then a senior White House adviser at the time when Trump banned on travelers from Muslim countries.

After receiving huge backlash on inviting Steve Bannon at a prestigious gathering which over the years has drawn world’s most prominent artists and public figures, New Yorker editor David Remnick issued a statement that they have decided to no longer include Steve Bannon in the 2018 New Yorker Festival.
David Remnick, who was set to interview Bannon, sent an internal memo saying that he’s “re-considered” and “changed my mind,” which the New Yorker later posted to Twitter.

He added that “There is a better way to do this. Our writers have interviewed Steve Bannon for The New Yorker before, and if the opportunity presents itself I’ll interview him in a more traditionally journalistic setting as we first discussed, and not on stage.”
The announcement of inviting Bannon came on Monday morning following which prominent producers, musician and comedians pulled out their names from the festival through series of tweet. Judd Apatow to John Mulaney, Jim Carrey to Jack Antonoff tweeted saying that they are out of festival if Bannon is going to be on festival panel.

If Steve Bannon is at the New Yorker festival I am out. I will not take part in an event that normalizes hate. I hope the @NewYorker will do the right thing and cancel the Steve Bannon event. Maybe they should read their own reporting about his ideology.

Bannon? And me? On the same program?
Could never happen.

I’m out. I genuinely support public intellectual debate, and have paid to see people speak with whom I strongly disagree. But this isn’t James Baldwin vs William F Buckley. This is PT Barnum level horseshit. And it was announced on a weekend just before tix went on sale. https://t.co/oYk1llNgvV

I apologize to Susan Morrison as I was really looking forward to our conversation. And I look forward to future @NewYorker Fests & other public, even heated, debates between different voices. But hard pass on this amateur-night sonofabitch.

I’m out. Sorry, @NewYorker. See if Milo Yiannopoulos is free? https://t.co/pDjlZkUdfO

i’m no longer going to be speaking/performing at the new yorker festival as long as steve bannon is there

I was honoured to be invited by @theeconomist to speak as part of their prestigious #openfuture convention – but I cannot in good conscience appear at an event which chooses to dignify a neo-nationalist like Steve Bannon. Unless this decision is reversed, I will not be attending. https://t.co/8UcIpABcd4

He created an online home for white nationalists to groom and grow their violent base. He cemented his destructive white supremacist views into the DNA of the White House. Now, New Yorker is selling tickets to see him headline. And here we are, folks. https://t.co/JyK8J13Zko

New Yorker Festival soon realized their fault and disinvited Steve Bannon at the festival. The festival includes guests Emily Blunt, Zadie Smith and Sally Yates. Sally Yates was fired from deputy attorney general post by Trump as she refused to back his initial ban on travellers from Muslim countries.
The New Yorker Festival is held between, October 5-7, 2018.
