Zoya Akhtar Confirms Gully Boy Sequel In Works; Fans Rejoice

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s Gully Boy is getting sequel, director Zoya Akhtar has confirmed.

Movies have the capability to open doors to various possibilities and opportunities. Taare Zameen Par opened about dyslexic children, 3 Idiots talked about the Indian education system. Gully Boy gave wings to hip-hop lovers. Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer movie, Gully Boy has earned rave reviews. The film has made close to Rs 250 crore worldwide.

The story of the movie is drawn from the real life of Naezy and Divine. Gully Boy is a story of  Murad who grew up in the slums of Dharavi but had the dream of becoming a rapper. The inspiring story on how he overcame all his obstacles to reach success is one that’s worth watching! The performances of Ranveer, Alia, and Siddhanth Chaturvedi have been outstanding. They bought characters to life and made it seem effortless. It has left a strong impression on the audience’s mind.

Gully Boy Movie Review{3.5/5}: Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt Deliver An Electrically Charged Movie

In an interview with Deccan, Zoya confirmed about the sequel. It might rather be an extension in a new film where the entire hip-hop/rap culture gets expanded.

Speaking on the sequel Zoya tells, “My co-writer Reema Kagti and I do feel there’s so much more to be said on the entire hip-hop culture in our country.  And another film exploring the theme is being scripted and planned.”

There’s not much known about the details of the project but there’s one thing that is confirmed. Farhan Akhtar won’t be in the movie. On why she didn’t cast him in the movie, she said, “He just didn’t fit into Gully Boy. And we’re both sorry about it. Also, his image from the Rock On series is affiliated to an entirely different genre of music. It would have been a bit of a culture shock for the audience to suddenly see him swerve from stadium-rock to hip-hop.”
