Apart from Priyanka Chopra and Ekta Kapoor, Bollywood entertainer Salman Khan, filmmaker Karan Johar and filmmaker Aditya Chopra amongst ‘Variety‘ magazine’s 500 Most Influential Business Leaders.
After Forbes Magazine’s highest paid celebrities’ list, Variety Magazine has released the names of the ‘Top 500 Influential Business Leaders’. The list contains names of influential personalities from all around the world and it features 12 Indians! This is a proud moment for all the women in the industry as ‘Bajirao Mastani’ actress Priyanka Chopra and producer Ekta Kapoor are the only two Indian women on the list.
Mention of two Indian women on this list is a big deal as the Variety Magazine’s top 500 list is updated annually and it reflects upon the accomplishments of its members over the previous year. Only after extensive research the members are selected by Variety’s editorial board. So, this means that two very influential and successful Indian women are a part of shaping a global industry worth USD 2 trillion.
Both Priyanka and Ekta have left their marks on the Indian and international mindset. Due to their nature of work both the women are internationally famous. Ekta Kapoor for her Hindi daily soaps and occasional movies. Priyanka Chopra for her ‘Quantico’ series, Bollywood and Hollywood projects.
Priyanka’s mention in the magazine reads as: “Although she had envisioned an engineering career, Chopra changed direction after winning the 2000 Miss World Pageant, when she received offers to act in Indian films.”
America critic Derek Elley praised Priyanka’s debut performance in ‘The Hero: Love Story of a Spy.’ However, he also mentioned that the actress’ filmy career took off only after she played Hrithik Roshan’s love interest in 2006’s ‘Krrish’.
The list is topped by Walt Disney Company’s Chairman and CEO Robert Iger. Other well-known names that feature on the list are of Hollywood actor/producer’s Bradley Cooper, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos, pop sensation Beyonce, ‘Harry Potter’ novels’ author J.K Rowling and YouTube’s CEO Susan Wojcicki.
Other Indians mentioned on the list are Founder/Chairman of Essel group Subhash Chandra, Reliance Group’s Chairman Anil Ambani, Reliance Industries’ Chairman/Managing Director Mukesh Ambani, 21st Century Fox Asia’s President Uday Shankar, Zee Entertainment’s CEO Punit Goenka, The Film and Television’s Producers Guild of India’s President Sidharth Kapur and Eros International’s Executive Chairman Kishore Lulla.
