Pehredaar Piya Ki Petition – Smriti Irani Takes Action To Ban The TV Show

Smriti Irani responds to the petition signed by over 1,14,104 supporters to ban TV show Pehredaar Piya Ki

Sony TV’s controversial show Pehredaar Piya Ki is providing indeed objectionable and crap content in the name of entertainment. The TV show, which started last month, shows (Afaan Khan), a 10-year-old boy who is married to and Diya (Tejaswi Prakash), 18. The show is in a way promoting child marriage and ruining the society culture. Ever since the first episode was telecast, people were outraged. In fact, the last few episodes of the showed the 10 year old boy’s suhaag raat moment and  how the young kid put’s sindoor on his wife’s forehead. The makers crossed all the lines despite knowing that the content of the show is unacceptable.

A couple of days ago, a petition was addressed to Smriti Zubin Irani, Union Cabinet Minister of Textiles and Information and Broadcasting (Additional Charge), in a request to look up into the matter to ban the show.

Finally, I & B Minister Smriti Irani has finally taken a huge step to ban the show. Smriti Irani has written to the BCCC (Broadcasting Content Complaints Council- the self-regulatory mechanism for GEC content) to look up into the matter at an priority basis.

The petition was posted by a certain viewer named, Mansi Jain via on for which,1,14,104 people have already responded and still counting to ban the show. The petition read, “Pehredar piya ki. – A 10 year old impressionable little kid(“piyaa”) caressing and stalking a lady who’s more than double his age and filling sindoor in her “maang” is being telecasted at prime time -8:30pm on sony. (Family time) It is to be devoured by the entire Nation. Imagine the kind of influence it will steadily and perpetually infuse in the viewers mindset. We want a ban on the serial. We do not want our kids to be infuenced by such tv serials. Join us in signing the petition to ban this serial. (sic).”

The key characters of the show are Tejasswi Prakash (Diya), Afaan Khan (Ratan), Suyyash Rai (Abhay), Parmeet Sethi (Harshwardhan Maan Singh) and Kishori Shahane (Padma Singh).
