Among 89 awardee list for Padma Shri, there were 8 Sports Persons name list for the Padma Shri Awards 2017. Indian cricket skipper Virat Kohli received Padma Shri, country’s fourth highest civilian award from the president of India Pranab Mukherjee. Rio Olympics bronze medalist wrestler Sakshi Malik, gymnast Dipa Karmakar, Paralympian Gold medalist Mariyappan Thangavelu too were honored with Padma Shri Award for their phenomenal contribution in the world of sports and bringing our nation in light. Rio Olympics qualified Discus thrower Vikas Gowda and blind cricket team captain Shekhar Naik, hockey captain PR Sreejesh too were honored with Padma Shri at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Thursday.
