Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan has confessed to having placed bets on Indian Premier League matches (IPL)
The latest development on the sensational news of IPL betting is Bollywood actor -producer Arbaaz Khan has reportedly confessed to his involvement in an IPL betting racket. Arbaaz reported at Thane police to give his statement in connection with an IPL betting scam.
Arbaaz Khan’s name surfaced after a prominent bookie named Sonu Jalan was arrested on Tuesday. Reportedly Jalan, 41, is kingpin who runs an international gambling operation and having link with the most wanted mafia Dawood Ibrahim.
The connection between Sonu Jalan and Arbaaz Khan is traced to be more than five years. After the police inquired and arrested kingpin bookie Sonu Jalan, Arbaaz Khan’s name surfaced. The police said, “We suspect that Arbaaz Khan had placed bets on IPL matches and want to scrutinise his bank transactions.”
According to NDTV reports, Arbaaz Khan lost Rs 2.80 crore in betting and was receiving threat calls from Sonu Jalan for not paying the amount.
“Actor Arbaaz Khan placed bets during one of the past IPL seasons through Jalan. In those days, Jalan was working with a big bookie who went by the name Junior Calcutta. Subsequently, to there was a huge transaction between Jalan and Khan. Apparently, Khan was blackmailed into paying crores, the threat being that his gambling habit would be exposed. But all this will be probed once Khan gives his side of the story,” a senior officer associated with the probe was quoted by TOI.
The further investigations and evidence in IPL betting case will bring more prominent names from the industry and round the world. The investigation officer said that Jalan has revealed more names who have been betting on certain IPL teams and players.
