Pakistani singer turned actor Ali Zafar is alleged of sexual harassment by Pakistani singer and actress Meesha Shafi
The cases of rape and sexual assaults against women are on the rise with each passing day and thankfully women are now gathering the courage to come out and speak of the harassment they have faced in their lives. Be it India’s Kathua or Unnao cases or Hollywood’s Harvey Weinstein’s instance, women are not sparing men, who have given them a tough time.
Just when the #MeToo uproar refused to die down, Pakistani actress, singer and model, Meesha Shafi has stood up for sexual assault she has been subjected to at the hands of her colleague on more than one occasions against popular Pakistani artist Ali Zafar. Meesha Shafi made her debut in Mira Nair’s ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’ and later starred in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’. She has also appeared on the Pakistani Coke Studio.
Meesha Shafi, who hails from a reputed Pakistani family with a political background, posted a heartfelt letter on her Twitter account, mentioning how Ali Zafar subjected her to sexual harassment time and again despite her being an accomplished woman. She said “Sharing this because I believe that by speaking out about my own experience of sexual harassment, I will break the culture of silence that permeates through our society. It is not easy to speak out.. but it is harder to stay silent. My conscience will not allow it anymore #MeToo”

Ever since Meesha has opened up and called Ali Zafar’s name on Twitter, supporters and her fan followers are praising Meesha for coming out with an issue and speaking up against the sexual ordeal she has had to endure due to a popular artist, while also showing their resentment towards Ali Zafar.

Ali Zafar is a known name in the Indian film industry, having appeared in films like ‘Tere Bin Laden’, ‘London, Paris, New York’, ‘Kill Dil’ and ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ to name a few. Ironically, he was one of the first artists to stand up and speak for fellow actress Mahira Khan, who was trolled after her pictures with Ranbir Kapoor on a smoking break went viral on the Internet. He shared that women had all the right, just like men, to decide what they wanted to do with their lives.

Ali Zafar is yet to comment on the allegations. He was last seen in Gauri Shinde’s ‘Dear Zindagi’, which also starred Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt.
