“The Regal Threads” Manish Malhotra’s Love for Benaras and Gujrat Weaves

Manish Malhotra’s collection for spring summer 2016 brought the very soul of Benaras and Gujrat to his new collection called “The Regal Threads”. Few days back I had given all the details on “Sabyasachi” which were all pastel colors. Manish Malhotra on the contrary showcased bright colors and travelled way back to ancient art and handicraft.

Manish Malhotra chose Benaras and Gujrat weaves to justify the collection to be named as ‘Make in India‘. He selected the very root of Indian wear and heritage that is Benaras which is wore and existing through ages. Mirror work from Gujrat is is cherry on cake. He used base of the fabric as Benaras silk, cotton, brocade and bandhani which are handwoven and incorporated into saris, checkered blouses, lehengas, anarali’s ,jackets, dupattas and kurti’s. 

 

Asked why he named the collection “Regal Threads”, Malhotra, whose creations have been donned by Bollywood stars like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, said, “This is the first time I am doing all clothes in woven and it’s all a part of Make in India (initiative). It’s exciting to work in something that I have not ventured into”.

Aditya Roy Kapoor and Katrina Kaif were the showstoppers for the show. Asked why he choose Katrina and Aditya as showstoppers, the designer said: “It’s a very Indian collection. It’s very organic. I think Katrina and Aditya are tall, beautiful, very today, sexy and glamorous. I have worked with Aditya before and he looks very good in an Indian attire. Of course, Katrina looks very beautiful and I think they make perfect showstoppers for the collection.”
